Christopher Newport University students Cassandra Lee Hailey, 18, and Richard W. “Keith” Call, 20, alongside six others, are presumed victims of a Colonial Parkway serial killer, though no suspect has ever been identified. In the wee hours of Sunday, April 10, 1988, Keith and Cassandra left a party in Newport News, Virginia and got into his red 1982 Toyota Celica. The couple were on their first date. Just a few hours later, Keith’s car was found abandoned around 7:30am at the York River pull off along Colonial Parkway. At first, authorities suspected they went for a swim, despite the chilly temperatures, and drowned, but the FBI concluded that was unlikely. There were no signs of foul play at the scene, and no bodies have ever been found. It was as if the couple simply vanished without a trace. As for the “Colonial Parkway” connection, four young couples either vanished or were found dead along that stretch of road between 1986 and 1989. The crimes are still considered independent of each other, and any link is purely speculative. If you have any information about these crimes, please contact the Virginia State Police at 757-424-6850.
